Amana Academy Charter

Amana Academy's Charter is the product of a team effort between Amana's organizers, consultants, Fulton County input, and State DOE input. It serves as the guiding document for Amana Academy's future operations and as a contract between Amana Academy and Fulton County Schools & the Georgia Department of Education. The Charter is approximately 300 pages and includes the following:

  • Official requirements and specific waivers
  • Amana's Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles
  • Educational curriculum, approach, and goals
  • Operational and financial goals and plans
  • Staffing and organizational plans
  • Supporting documentation

We encourage you to read or download Amana's Charter because it defines the school; and we welcome your feedback. NOTE: The .pdf is large (6.18MB).

Gender Separation Update - February 2006

Though our charter was approved to include single gender classrooms in upper elementary and middle school, Amana Academy had to hold off on implementing this due to a current federal Department of Education initiative to investigate the place of single gender classrooms in public education nationwide. If the federal department approves single gender public education, Amana will move forward on this element of our plan. Until the decision is made, we will continue to comply by offering mixed gender classes. We check with the DOE regularly to keep updated, and have not been given a timetable for when to expect an answer on this question.
