Winter '10 MAP Test Results
You will see a Progress Report indicating the Amana average (called "District score"), the National average (Called "Normed score"), and your child's percentile. The percentiles have been translated into descriptors like "High", "Avg", and "Lo" to help you understand your child's standing for that grade level.
MAP tests are both criterion-referenced (aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards) and norm-referenced tests given to over 2 million children across the United States. The benefit to parents is that the score, called a RIT score, carries over time, so you can see the actual growth of your child in each skill. Our staff received the results and analyzed the data, working with their grade level colleagues, Intervention, and TAG teachers to plan customized instruction for each child (differentiation) for the remainder of the school year.
Our outstanding results underscore the power of the Expeditionary Learning instructional model. Students are focused not on drills and worksheets to meet test objectives, but on motivational integrated units intended to teach themes that align with standards but more importantly align with the interests and curiosity of the children, taking them out into the world on field studies, bringing in experts, and allowing them to create projects and presentations that demonstrate how they have internalized new insights about the world.
Please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher or Jelena Naim, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, if you have any questions about your child's MAP test results.
